are the first lands in possession of the whites in this county. The following is a list of the names of such lands in 1808,
and were either actual settlers of such, or had acquired rights thereto by purchase. By the records given before the
government commission (Peter Audrain, James Abbott and Stanley Griswold). Nicholas Patenaude was the first white settler in
Macomb county, who claimed to having improved private claim No. 273, in 1758:
